Rebuilding Through Education
At the heart of Liberia’s recovery is education. In 2005, David S. Fatorma, a civil war survivor, founded Light Stream Academy to provide quality education to Liberia’s poorest children and war orphans—students who would otherwise have no access to learning opportunities.
Through the Leadership & Education for Africa Project (LEAP), nearly 100% of the support for Light Stream Academy comes from generous sponsors and donors. Our aim is to empower students not only academically but also socially and spiritually, preparing them to become future leaders and contributors to Liberia’s growth.
- 400 students currently enrolled from Kindergarten through Junior High (K-8), with many alumni successfully pursuing high school, university, and careers in Liberia.
- 20 dedicated staff members supported with monthly salaries and ongoing professional training.
- Over 8 classrooms, offices, and facilities added in 2014 to accommodate the growing number of students.
- Every Education Directly Impacts Liberian Communities
